Arts forum gears up for Red eARTh

29/08/2008 12:04:00 PM
The Arts and Culture Forum is gearing up for the 2009 Red eARTh Festival.

At their last meeting on August 20 the Arts and Culture Forum took its first steps towards planning the event.

"At this early stage, we'd love to hear from people who might like to help us plan and create the Red Earth Festival in 2009," forum chairperson Yvette Mooney said.

"We've been looking at which aspects of the festival were most successful, and looking at how we can recreate that in 2009 and make it even better."

The first Red eARTh Festival, held in August 2007, featured workshops in a variety of arts related skills including jewellery making and drumming.

"We had successful workshops in a lot of different art forms, and a hugely successful local theatre production," Yvette said.

"The festival drew in some major players from outside Roxby but the strength of the Festival was its local content, the amount of local artists and volunteers who took part was just fantastic."

The forum is seeking expressions of interest from people who might like to be involved in the planning and running of next year's festival, or who might be able to host a workshop.

"We'd also like to hear from anyone who has suggestions as to what they'd like to see in next year's event," Yvette said,

"This is, after all, a community festival, so we want to hear from the community to help make it another great event for Roxby Downs."

Anyone interested in getting involved in the next Red eARTth Festival can call Yvette on 0417 875 347.

Alternatively they can contact the forum via email to roxby.arts@gmail.com or come along to the next Arts & Culture Forum meeting on September 24 at 7.30pm at Dunes Café.
