Rob Hutchinson has had a busy few months.
He has been head hunted to play in the premier one league for Holdfast Bay Bowling Club and he has lived to see some terrific renovations done at the Roxby Downs Bowling Club.
Rob, along with friends Simon Jones, Fiona Pillar and Sue Bennett plus others have transformed the inside and outside spaces at the bowling club.
"We have widened the concrete all around the greebn, it gives players much more room to move,” Rob said.
Other improvements include the existing shades being moved to the northern side of the greens and new shading on the way for the western side of the green.
They are also looking and putting lights at the far corners of the playing greens to make it easier to play at night.
The working group has also resurfaced inside the clubrooms.
They have new tables and chairs.
The club is able to host quite a few small corporate events and that has helped pay for the renovations.
There are also plans to put in a new larger barbecue for outside events in the summer.
The club runs a special social night on Friday nights called Night Owlers.
They also do special events like last month's Friends of Arid Recovery Sunday Session.
The club has turned out numerous champions and competes in the Upper Northern District Bowling Association.
Rob has been short listed for the State Development Squad but he is most happy talking about the new look bowling club.
"We are going to put in a watering system, it sounds funny given that this is a synthetic turf but it helps a great deal with the levelling and makes it a faster surface,” Rob said.
The bowling club has more than 30 members and is always looking for new members.
"There is a whole new demographic of people bowling now,” Rob said.
“It’s becoming popular with younger people and it mixes well with music and good food.”
Nominations for club championship are due on September 5.
Membership subscriptions are also due.
"There is also a possibility that we could put a small contingent together to play Pennants League with ETSA Bowling Club in Port Augusta, if enough people want it," Rob said.
