In preparation for another exciting season of volleyball in Roxby Downs, the association kick-started the second half of 2008 with a registration event on Monday night.
Showing some strong enthusiasm, a large group of new players turned up on the evening and joined some old faces for a relaxed round robin competition.
Fighting for the title of "Registration Night Champions" were the Quicksilvers, Cougars, Overload, The Mess and, for the second time this year, the Big Day Out.
With five teams ready to play, the tournament on Monday night comprised of 10 games, each being eight minutes long.
As the temperature rapidly dropped in the Leisure Centre, the plays out on the court began to heat up as teams began to click.
Given the situation with an unusually small percentage of regular volleyball players in each team, people new to the sport took the opportunity to try their hand at some serious plays and unbelievable returns.
On Monday night there was quite a bit of discussion among the regular season team captains about who was going to approach (or poach!) the new players over the coming weeks.
In the end however, the Quicksilvers were just too strong with a final tally of 148 per cent (points for versus points against).
Second place was taken by The Mess with 120 per cent and in third was Overload on 103 per cent.
The inflow of a new team and many individual players to the competition indicates season two will be a highlight of the Roxby sporting calendar.
Starting Monday, season two will comprise of 14 normal rounds as well as two novelty 'round robin' tournaments, and will finish with two weeks of finals.
The final team list includes the following: Benders, Block Its, Bum Taps (formally known as Phoenix), Los As Say Toon Us, Los Tintos, Sina's Saints, Tigers, and What is the Deal.
A playing schedule for the season will be available this week, with games beginning on Monday at 6.30pm.
Players will be sent information prior to Monday's game via email and their team captains.
