Olympic spirit contines through volleyball

29/08/2008 12:11:00 PM
The Olympic spirit has continued after the closing ceremony.

Games were hard fought, fantastic moves seemingly pulled out of nowhere and vocal support from the crowd!

The first games for the night were Bum Taps versus LASTU and S & S Saints versus Block It's.

Off the back of a convincing win last round, LASTU were confronted with an invigorated Bum Taps keen to win.

After a close battle, LASTU were the victors, defeating Bum Taps 2 sets to 1, 91 vs 90 points. Jason Carroll was this games MVP.

The second early game clearly highlights the Saints continued good run and team playing defeating Block It's three sets to 1, 91 vs 79 points.

The end score didn't highlight how close the game really was with the opening set, promising a nail biting ending, the second and third sets swung to both teams with the third set being won by the Saints to finish what was a hard fought battle.

Karl Tinsley was the game MVP.

The second round of games consisted of Tigers versus Overload and Benders versus Los Tintos.

Even after the loss of their captain and strong player Glen Basset, the Tigers were able to pull a massive win defeating Overload 5 vs 0 sets, 122 vs 14 points.

Rob Kinnaird was the game MVP, and Amy Buchanan and Rebecca Partridge from Overload grabbed the two females votes.

The final game of the second round was always going to be an interesting game.

Los Tintos were short and had to bring in substitutes from the earlier games to field their team and Benders had their full compliment of strong players.

After a slow start, Los Tintos were able to come close to winning two sets but the dominating Benders were too strong and defeated Los Tintos 4 sets versus 0, 100 vs 69 points.

It seems Benders were closely watching the volleyball during the Olympics pulling some spectacular shots from both the front and back of the court.

Rob Charman was the game MVP.
